Timberland

Timberland is a global leader in the design, engineering and marketing of premium quality footwear, apparel, and accessories for consumers who value the outdoors and their time in it. TimberlandĀ® products offer quality craftsmanship and detailing and are built to withstand nature’s elements.

Timberland is addressing climate change by using renewable sources of energy and examining transportation requirements. The company aims to reduce its impact and help others to do the same. As well as pioneering the purchase of Green Tags in collaboration with Clean Air-Cool Planet, the company has also promoted the use of CHP and co-generation in its facilities in the Netherlands.

The company’s new emission reduction project included: 1) installation of a 2.4 kW solar system in Stratham, 2) beginning of energy reduction projects at retail stores (Kenosha, WI was the first to change out T12 lighting to more efficient T8 lighting), 3) launch of a hybrid incentive that provides $3,000 to any employee that purchases a hybrid, 4) energy improvements in the DR, which resulted in a 6% gain in efficiency, 5) freight changes in Enschede which resulted in a emissions reduction of 35,211 metric tons of CO2 (NB freight is not included in 2003 baseline. The 45,000 metric tons of emissions comes from electric, gas, diesel use as well as plane and automobile transportation), and 6) energy improvements at the United States Distribution Centers to cut energy use and bills roughly in half totaling 36%.
