Duke Energy
Duke Energy Corp., one of the largest electric power companies in the United States, supplies and delivers energy to approximately 3.9 million U.S. customers. The company has nearly 37,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Midwest and the Carolinas, and natural gas distribution services in Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, Duke Energy has more than 4,000 megawatts of electric generation in Latin America, and is a joint-venture partner in a U.S. real estate company. Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy is a Fortune 500 company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DUK.
Duke Energy has committed to a voluntary CO2 reduction program, pledging to reduce 10 million tons of emissions over the next seven years from a business as usual trajectory. The company has also pledged to invest 1% of annual revenues to establish energy efficiency programs in its North Carolina service territory. As these programs are built and energy savings realized, Duke Energy will retire on a megawatt-for-megawatt basis older coal-fired generation.
Duke Energy has taken a policy leadership role in Washington, promoting mandatory GHG regulation through its membership in the United States Climate Action Program and the Pew Center for Climate Change; internationally, the company is a member of the 3C Partnership and the International Emissions Trading Association.
