The Dongtan eco-city in Shanghai, China, is being developed by Arup as a successful blueprint for the creation of truly sustainable cities. Through projects such as the Thames Gateway low-carbon development, Arup is applying its sustainable city blueprint globally. Peter Head, Arup’s Director of Sustainability, described the two projects: “The work we are doing in Dongtan and in the Thames Gateway leads the way in creating a workable financial model, as well as a blueprint for the world’s leading cities.”
