The °Climate Group Welcomes New Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s Commitment to Climate Change
November 27, 2007
The °Climate Group welcomes the election of Kevin Rudd’s Labor Party in Australia and its strong commitment to address climate change.
Mr Rudd has said that one of the first things he plans as Prime Minister is to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.
“This sends a strong message that the best way to address climate change is by the world working together,” said Rupert Posner, Australian Director of The °Climate Group.
“We welcome the fact that Mr Rudd will attend next month’s climate change meeting in Bali. It sends a strong message that Australia is once again going to take a leading role in helping the world address climate change.”
During the campaign Mr Rudd also committed to reducing Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050, increasing the country’s renewable energy to 20% by 2020 and introducing emissions trading.
