Kate Krebs
Director of Sustainable Resources
As Director of Sustainable Resources for North America, Kate is responsible for forging public-private solutions to climate change. Based in Washington DC, she is focusing on deepening The Climate Group’s reach into member organizations. She also works closely with Together’s campaign partners to help expand resource efficiency across their operations.
From 2000 through mid-2008, Kate served as Executive Director of the National Recycling Coalition (Washington DC). Responsible for national policy development and stakeholder engagement, Kate’s work with NRC included: developing strategies to strengthen sustainable materials economies in North America; building collaborative partnerships with leading companies to demonstrate best practice and innovative solutions; engaging thought leaders in the coalition; and forging working relationships to support policy goals.
An early leader of the recycling movement, Kate joined California’s Arcata Community Recycling Center in 1980 - when recycling was still in its infancy. There she designed and implemented community-based solutions for business and residential waste management. She also pioneered an initiative to enable locally-based manufacturing enterprises to use recycled materials.
In 1995, Kate founded Fire and Light Originals, a for-profit manufacturing enterprise that uses recycled glass to make high-end glass tableware. She has also seved on the governing board of the Arcata Economic Development Corporation.
