Preeti has a Masters degree and more than ten years of work experience in climate change, energy, environment and sustainable development. As Senior Advisor on Climate Security & Sustainable Development at the British High Commission New Delhi, Preeti has provided policy support to UK Government on climate change, energy security and sustainable development at the national and sub-national level. She negotiated/followed up on bilateral/multilateral agreements/international processes (G8+5: Gleneagles, Heiligendamm, Asia Pacific Partnership etc) with the Indian government. She has designed and managed bilateral work programmes with key Government of India Ministries in New Delhi as well as state governments. She has lead engagement on climate change with civil society including business in order to influence national policy making and India’s position in international climate change negotiations.
Preeti has considerable research experience and has done both pure & applied research work during her nine years at the Energy & Resources Institute (TERI). She has handled assignments involving policy research, capacity building, communication, experimental (laboratory) research and programme implementation. Preeti has worked in over twenty projects for Government of India, Public and Private sector companies, Bilateral and Multilateral funding agencies, and Non government/community-based organisations. She has travelled extensively in India doing project work including in remote regions. She has handled international consultancy; Co-authored five books and has published & reviewed papers and articles in refereed journals. She has considerable managerial experience and has headed multi-disciplinary teams as Head of Department at TERI and Deputy Head at the British High Commission.
