Barclays Climate Action Programme
1. Reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by improving energy efficiency.
2. Buy renewable energy.
3. Make global operations carbon neutral by 2009 by offsetting the remaining CO2 emissions.
4. Work with suppliers to help them reduce their CO2 emissions.
5. Develop products and services that help customers reduce their impact on climate change.
6. Engage with key stakeholders and contribute to the debate on climate change action.

Barclays UK targets for 2006–2010 are detailed here. Performance is measured against a 2005 baseline unless otherwise stated.
> Reduce total CO2 emissions by 20 per cent (using 2000 as the baseline).
> Reduce carbon intensity by 20 per cent (tonnes CO2 per £1million of UK income).
> Reduce energy consumption from offices and branches per employee by 20 per cent at a rate of no less than four per cent each year.
> Improve energy efficiency in data centres.
These targets apply to Barclays operations in France, Spain and Portugal and Barclays Capital’s operations in the Americas (New York, New Jersey and Sao Paulo), Asia (Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong) and EMEA (Paris and Frankfurt).
